Planning Road Trip to the North Holiday Vacation

We just spend our Christmas at home and I’m planning to spend the remaining vacation days out of town and celebrate New Year’s eve somewhere else. I always wanted to go north where my roots came from.

I’ll probably feel at home because of being a pure Ilocano. So excited to taste my favorite dish where it was originated. Considerations: tourist spots to visit, gas money, lodging, food and travel time. I guess bringing a pet on a road trip is a bad idea.

I need someone to take care of our pet cat Dovi. Luckily, one of my colleagues is a cat lover. I already asked her a favor of taking care of our pet while we are on the road trip.

Question is… is it okay to bring our baby to this trip? Hmmm… why I’m asking this? Of course yes! We just need to bring lots of toys to ease her boredom while in transit.

I’m planning to start our trip on Thursday, December 28 and hoping to go back to Manila on January 1. 1st stop would be on La Union. After visiting some sites, we’ll drive all the way to Pagudpud and stay there and rest.

The next day is to visit sites around Pagudpud. Depends on time, we might travel down to Laoag the same day and stay there for the night. Or we can stay at Pagudpud and travel to Laoag the next day. The last stop would be Vigan. We will welcome 2018 at Calle Crisologo if possible.

UPDATE: DECEMBER 27 | 1 DAY BEFORE THE TRIP

Change of plans. My son and daughter wanted to visit Baguio City before traveling to the north. So our first stop is Baguio City. I allotted only 1 day for the Baguio City tour. I narrowed it to the most worth it places that we can visit.

1 Day Baguio City Tour

I hope the timing is right. We’ll leave Manila at 2:00 AM. At least the sun already rose when we reach Lions Head. According to Waze, we need to leave 11:00 PM if we wanted to arrive 6:30 AM at Lion’s Head. But this time I’m going to trust Google Navigation. Estimate travel time to Lion’s Head is 4 hours and 12 minutes. Close to my calculation.

My guide to visiting time duration each tourist spots:

  1. Lion’s Head=15 minutes
  2. Kennon Road Viewpoint=5 minutes
  3. PMA, Fort del Pilar=1 hour to 1.5 hour
  4. Bell House, Camp John Hay=1 hour
  5. Burham Park(optional)
  6. Valley of Colors=5 minutes
  7. Stobosa Artwork=5 minutes
  8. Strawberry Farm=2 hours

After Strawberry Farm visit, we’ll drive straight to our hotel in San Fernando, La Union. From there, we’ll start our north road trip. Actually, I don’t have a plan after the Baguio City trip. I just listed interesting sites to visit.

After we visit sites in La Union, we’ll drive up north to Pagudpud. We’ll stay for 2 days and go back to Vigan where we will celebrate New Year’s Eve as we planned.
